MLB, Get It Over With Already!
Am I the only one, or is everyone tired of hearing about the soap opera known as the “2003 Steroid List” scandal. Instead of getting to the worst and then dealing with the consequences, MLB seems to feel the need to drop names on our heads like an annoying leaky faucet.
There have been many websites such as sports.iowa.com that have posted the rumored 2003 MLB Steroid list. Upon looking at the list I want to you to take a walk down memory lane with me. Remember in 2005 when Jose Canseco came out with the controversial autobiography “Juiced.” He dropped names such as Rafael Palmiero, Mark McGuire, and Jason Giambi. He also made claims that the majority of baseball was juiced up during his tenure in the Bigs. Now think back to the Senate hearings, and Mark McGuire flaming out in the witness seat when asked about illegal performance enhancers. Baseball still had the lid on what’s now know as the “Steroid Era.” The lid started to loosen when a sure fire Hall of Famer, Rafael Palmiero ( whom many thought played the game the right way) tested positive for an illegal performance enhancer. Next you have Jason Giambi’s so called mysterious illness and weight loss. Now he’s in front of the camera apologizing to Yankee fans and America for his wrong doing. Andy Petite’s results are later read and he justify’s them by saying he only used them “once.”
MLB that was your chance to air out all of your dirty laundry and move on. But why doesn’t the man who gets caught with his pants down just admit his wrong doing? Now the face and the future of Major League Baseball is sitting with Katie Couric on National Television admitting and apologizing for using steroids. Didn’t anyone notice that some of the levy’s were breaking and a disaster is soon to come. Since then, icons Manny Ramirez and “Big Papi” David Ortiz have been found guilty of breaking the MLB’s policy.
Does MLB think they are lulling us to an eventual state of apathy? Frankly I no longer see the names or the faces each time someone is announced to have taking steroids or another banned substance. After having most of baseball’s biggest names being fed to us, I don’t understand what the hold up is. I heard they are waiting to drop the name of a future Hall of Famer (juicy, not really). After looking at the leaked list, I am no longer surprised at the alleged guilty culprits. Although, it hasn’t been qualified by MLB yet, many of the names have already been found guilty. I am not surprised about others. Yet, there are some that have done Herculean acts like……. hit 4 home runs in a game. Hmm.. that explains how they did it.
I won’t say anymore, I will let you take a look at the list yourself and make your own inferences. I just ask that MLB will get it over with instead of operating as if they are at the end of the season and they are handing out their awards (i.e. Cy Young Awards, MVP, etc., one per day). After all, there are some exciting pennant races. It’s just another case of baseball giving itself another self-inflicted black eye.
